Professor Shahana Hamid is a distinguished educationist, social leader, and pioneer of women’s empowerment from Shyamnagar, Satkhira. She was born on October 28, 1951, in Laxminathpur, Kaliganj, Satkhira, and currently resides in Nakipur, Shyamnagar.
She holds an M.A. in Bangla from Rajshahi University (1972), following her Honours in Bangla from the same university (1971). Earlier, she completed her HSC from Khulna Women’s College (1969) and SSC from Nakipur H.C. High School (1967). Notably, she is recognized as the first woman from Shyamnagar to pass both SSC and Master’s level education, marking a historic milestone in the region.
Her professional journey in education began in 1975 as an Assistant Teacher at Nakipur Girls’ School, followed by a brief tenure as Assistant Head Teacher at Kumira Girls’ School. She later served as the Head Teacher of Kaliganj Pilot Secondary Girls’ School until 1982. In 1983, she joined Shyamnagar Mohsin College as a Lecturer, where she contributed significantly to higher education.
Beyond her academic career, Professor Hamid has played a vital role in social development. She served as a Thana Parishad Member from 1984 to 1988 and has been actively involved in community leadership. She is the President of CEDIO, a local NGO, and also served for a long time as the Chairperson of the National Women’s Organization at the local level.
Throughout her life, she has been deeply committed to social causes, including women’s empowerment, climate justice, and community development. Her leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on advancing rights, awareness, and resilience among marginalized communities.
